juz amma
June 18, 2009

can you see the picture? yes, it is picture of juz amma, a call for 30th juz of the Holy Quran. it is mine.
so, one day, when i spent my time at UKSI with my friends, i’ve got a KMMS bulletin (KMMS is an organization that focused of islamic activity around civil engineering students). inside the bulletin, there was a corssword and anyone who can fill this out perfectly, will get a prize.
and then, we fill out together and i sent the answers by email. and i get the prize. that is the prize. a little book of juz amma.
when yuma gave me this, i’m just thinking.
that little book reminds me to my childhood time. uhm, when i was in elementary school, i used to go to the mosque near my house every day to attend TPA (taman pendidikan al-quran). i learned how to read Quran there, from the beginning. from 1st iqra to 6th iqra, and then i moved to Al-Quran.
i am not only learn about how to read, but also about how to keep those juz amma’s surah in memories. i used to know some surah very well. can read those without see the book. huaaa, i miss those days.
i quit from TPA because of my activity in junior high school. i don’t mind, because i think it is just enough to know how to read those Arab alphabhet and it really help me through Al-Quran reading test.
hhhm, that’s not enough for real.
it has been a long time i didn’t read the Holy Quran or Tadarus. I forgot about those tajwid things. i forgot how to recognized what alphabet it is when it transfromed to another form. i forgot what should i do when i met those waqaf sign. and i lost my memories about those surahs. how embrassing it is, huh?
that little juz amma reminds me, how calm i am when i read Al-Quran. eventhough i didn’t know what the meaning, i just feel so relieved. and i comeback to read it after a long time recently, and those feeling never leaving me…
so now, i try to get myself used to that habit and become an orange. like this hadist said…
“orang mukmin yang membaca al quran itu seperti jeruk, yang wanginya enk dan rasanya manis”
(not based on the real hadits, i’ll get it for you next time, huehheheh)

• Who are the Muslims?
One billion people from a vast range of races, nationalities and cultures across the globe – from the southern Philippines to Nigeria – are united by their common Islamic faith. About 18% live in the Arab world; the world’s largest Muslim community is in Indonesia; substantial parts of Asia and most of Africa are Muslim, while significant minorities are to be found in the Soviet Union, China, North and South America, and Europe.
• What do Muslims believe?
Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God; in the Angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and individual accountability for actions; in God’s complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist, and Jesus, peace be upon them. But God’s final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through Gabriel.
• How does someone become a Muslim?
Simply by saying ‘there is no god apart from God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God.’ By this declaration the believer announces his or her faith in all God’s messengers, and the scriptures they brought.
• What does ‘Islam’ mean?
The Arabic word ‘Islam’ simply means ’submission’, and derives from a word meaning ‘peace’. In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God. ‘Mohammedanism’ is thus a misnomer because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad rather than God. ‘Allah’ is the Arabic name for God, which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians alike.
• Why does Islam often seem strange?
Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is because religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today, whereas Muslims have religion always uppermost in their minds, and make no division between secular and sacred. They believe that the Divine Law, the Shari’a, should be taken very seriously, which is why issues related to religion are still so important.
